The 40-year-old Glen Mhor whisky was matured in a refill Sherry hogshead. G & M filled a total of 174 bottles. This bottling is the oldest expression of Glen Mohr ever released.
Charles Doig, Scotland’s most famous whisky distillery architect, designed the Glen Mohr distillery. It was built in 1892 by John Birnie and Charles Mackinlay, in Inverness, directly on the easternmost locks of the Caledonian Canal.
It drew its water from Loch Ness. Remarkably, the Highland-based distillery remained water-powered until the 1950s. Glen Mohr was the first whisky distiller in 1954 to utilize Saladin boxes to malt its barley. The distillery was closed in 1983 and demolished in 1986.
